To adjust sails in order to keep on sailing.
"The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails." William George Ward.
In the midst of the storm, sometimes the sails cannot withstand it and must be reefed, and sometimes it is so virulent that it is necessary to resort to extraordinary measures to prevent the ship from sinking while waiting for the situation to normalize. But what happens when, after the strong storm, we encounter a new reality with new winds to face? Only one alternative remains to keep sailing; it's time to adjust the sails, reinvent, and adapt.
In parallel with the phases that the Government has been elaborating, we have gone through other "psychological phases" that have led us:
-From the initial shock
-To a second period of Assimilation of reality.
-A third one of Subsistence where all efforts were focused on resisting.
-And now to a fourth phase of Reinvention.
And in this one, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Self-Employed individuals are giving us an example of struggle, imagination, and resistance that turns them into other heroes of the current situation.
There are many examples that we are seeing every day; thus, teleworking has been implemented, online training, food services, hairdressing or babysitting services at home, reorientation of production to manufacture health materials, rental of restaurant premises for friends or families seeking to give them a new life, etc.
At Inversa, we closely witness all this effort and are witnesses of another fundamental adjustment, the financial one. Having healthy finances is advisable in any context, but in times of crisis like the current one, it requires extra effort, vital for the survival of businesses. All instruments that serve to provide liquidity to the business fabric will play a fundamental role in the recovery and reinvention scenario.
We also observe an adjustment in the way of investing the savings; on one hand, high volatility makes us more cautious, and on the other hand, sustainable investment is increasingly valued, the one that contributes to the growth of the real economy.
But beyond all these initiatives and new tools, and parallel to all of them, a deeper debate begins to address the reconstruction as a Country. The question is to decide what model of country we want and what we must change to achieve it because the support of public institutions must accompany citizens; if they have the capacity to reinvent themselves, policies must be aimed at laying the regulatory, financial, training bases, etc., that foster change.
And above nations, it is time to face a global adjustment of sails that implies commitment and coordination on the path to follow. The enemy may perhaps be the same for EVERYONE for the first time.
.
A virus has revealed our weaknesses but also our strengths and forces us to consider new challenges for the future. At Inversa, we see these challenges as new opportunities for global change towards other values and economic models.
It is in our hands to adjust the sails so that the global ship in which we all sail sets a new course.
